How to make Red Hot Cinnamon Hard Candy Old Fashioned Recipe!

This Red Hot Cinnamon Candy is so festive! Such a delicious and pretty dessert for the Christmas season! The Best Cinnamon Hard Candy!

First, you’ll need to grease either a baking pan or jelly roll pan (15″x10″x1″) with butter. Line the pan with parchment paper and butter the parchment paper too.

Next, add the corn syrup, sugar, water, and food coloring to a large saucepan. Stir all together, cover with a lid, and bring to a boil. (Don’t over stir the mixture!)

Once it’s boiling, remove the lid and continue to boil it for 3 minutes. (Stir occasionally.)

After this, insert the candy thermometer and heat the candy mixture to 300 degrees.

When it’s getting really close to the mark, remove the mixture from the heat, quickly stir, then return to heat.

Now, when the candy mixture has reached 300 degrees, immediately remove it from the heat. Quickly add in the cinnamon oil. (Be prepared for the strong fragrance!)

Then pour the hot candy mixture into the prepared baking pan (or jelly roll pan). Let it cool for 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

Once your Cinnamon Candy has completely hardened, sprinkle powdered sugar on both sides of the candy.

Next, wrap the head of a hammer in a zippered bag and break the candy into pieces using the hammer. (Fun!)

Now your Cinnamon Christmas Candy is ready to serve!

You can also re-sprinkle the pieces with powdered sugar to cover all the edges, or you can leave the edges exposed and clean.

Red Hot Cinnamon Hard Candy Old Fashioned Recipe

Yields: 15×10” sheet pan
Preparation time: 45 Minutes
Baking time: None
Additional time: 1.5 hours

Ingredients:
Butter for preparing the pan and parchment paper
4 cups granulated sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup purified water
1 teaspoon water based red food coloring (optional)
1 teaspoon cinnamon candy oil
1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:
Grease a 15”x10”x1” baking sheet (jelly roll pan) with butter.
Line the baking sheet with parchment paper and then butter the parchment paper also.
In a large saucepan, add the sugar, corn syrup, water, and food coloring.
Stir mixture, cover, and heat over medium heat until boiling (stirring occasionally).
Once boiling, uncover and let it boil for 3 minutes to dissolve sugar (stirring occasionally).
Insert a candy thermometer into the saucepan and cook on medium heat until the mixture gets to 300 degrees °F or the “hard crack” stage. Do not stir during this step until the very end.
As the mixture approaches 300 degrees (this took about 20-25 minutes), remove it from the heat and give it a quick stir to prevent burning. Replace the mixture back onto the heat and watch it closely and carefully until it reaches 300 degrees.
Once the mixture reaches 300 degrees °F, immediately remove it from the heat and quickly add the cinnamon oil (do this in a well ventilated area or open a window because the fragrance is very strong).
Carefully pour the very hot mixture into the prepared pan.
Let cool for 1.5 – 2.5 hours.
Sprinkle the top with powdered sugar and then flip it over and sprinkle the other side.
Wrap the head of a hammer with a zippered bag and use a hammer to break the candy apart.
Option to re-sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired or leave the edges exposed and clean.

Notes:
● Use 1.5 teaspoon or 2 teaspoons of cinnamon oil for a stronger cinnamon flavor.
● If you want a thinner candy, or for your recipe to yield more, use a larger sheet pan. The mixture may not go to the edges of the pan, but it will still spread more and be thinner.
● Store in an airtight container at room temperature so the candy does not get sticky.
● Package and gift to friends or serve on a tray!
