Random outstation for me (BLQ) Bologna, so I thought worth reporting. I had no expectations but all of the announcements were automated and Group 0 called in Italian then English, about a minute after the families call. I seemed to be the only one so first onto the bus! Perhaps I am just lucky but not had a single fail in any of numerous recent ex-EDI and ex-LHR flights although at LHR I always let the gate staff know.

I've not had a failure for ages either. Mainly travelling from LHR T5, AMS, ABZ, GLA. I occasionally go to the gate at T5, depending on the state when I arrive, but mostly not and never at outstations.
Sent in positive feedback for a particularly good T5 agent this week: gate lead made a Group 0 call long before Group 1, but then at every announcement after added "and if we have any Group 0's please come straight to the desk" until he had us all (3).

Rather half-hearted Group 0 call at a T3 boarding pen, although in fairness I may well have been the only one. As soon as I passed the podium next to the jetbridge, group 1 was called.

Lax: 3/10 at best. Went to the desk as I only had a seat I didnt like (ggl in f moved to irrops). Since I was there already asked if they would do group 0 boarding and was told yes of course after pre boarding.
waited patiently on the side but then group 1 people started barging in. Group 0 called correctly so made my way to the gate only to be told by the agent in the middle I needed to wait since there were group 1 pax boarding. I just said but Im group 0 and was answered TSA style: sir, only group 1 for now. (my suspicion here is that his reaction was no so much due to incompetence as to him just not listening and being on his little power trip. I could have said I was in group 3947 it would have made no difference).
in the end it didnt matter as I was in F and there was space for my bag despite the full cabin but whilst I give them credit for calllijg group 0, it seems their own agent had no clue.
ill admit Im really fed up with complaining by now and if I have to, plenty of more unpleasant stuff on this trip (the lady in my seat outbound, all flights delayed, change of itinerary arriving over 4 hours later then planned, internet not working on any flight, luggage lost for once that I check it and told at lhr it had been loaded as I asked so I waited for nothing upon arrival etc) but frankly, as a ggl in F Im not very impressed.
PS: Seemingly lots of group 0 pax on that flight.

A fun one tonight EDI announced can the group 0 passenger (singular) now come forward. That got a few looks. EDI has been consistently good.
I get to try LGW and AGA this week so lets see!

This happened to me at DXB once and I found it highly amusing. Was a bus gate for DXB-HND, the heavily accented agent shouted “first class passenger!” and I laughed a little as I walked up to the gate for boarding thinking it was an English grammar fail. She scanned my boarding pass, I walked onto the bus and then the doors closed and we set off and I was happy to realise she was completely correct!

Honestly, it kind of depends on the specifics.
But agree it sounds like a poor show with a route that must have a lot of Group 0 eligible passengers.

I had a perfect experience at Gate A8 at T5 last night. I left the CCR a little late to find them putting Group 1 into one line and 2-3 in another. The staff member carrying out the ID check directed me to pre-board and I was first on the aircraft.
There was no call for Group 0 at Edi for the LCY flight on Monday evening.

LCY showing how it should be done for BA8706 to EDI this evening. Really clear announcement from the gate agent pre boarding, and then plenty of time given to wade through the Group 1 people to the front. A great welcome by name by the agent and even a totally unnecessary apology that two passengers with mobility issues had been sent to board first. Group 1 called as I was half way down the stairs to the gate.

They called it tonight in BER. Of course, that just meant standing longer in that weird sloped staircase in BER that has no air conditioning and was super hot...because they started boarding before the plane was actually ready to be entered, and there was a tensa barrier that blocked the way to the jet bridge.
Someone got fed up and removed the tensa barrier.
Everyone walked into the jet bridge to continue to wait...at least that was a bit cooler.

Ive experienced that a couple of times now (can the only CK on the flight please come to the podium) and it is rather comical to throw the people who think group one has been called off their game.

That is annoying. Time to introduce group minus one as the passenger on my flight a couple of days ago recommended to the agent. As you said, many more pressing issues with the trip.

Well executed to NCL last night - we were about 2nd or third to get into the tensa squiggle, but when the chap looking at passports saw Gp0, he directed us to the side where we could just go with the pre-boards. I like this way of doing things - no requirement to ask and you don't get caught in the Gp 1 queue waiting to scan boarding passes. Also means you dont have to be at the gate super early in the hope they may call Gp0.

On BA1426 LHR/BHD on 7th June, families called first, then Group 0. There seemed to be an astonishing large number of 0s. That's possible on the LHR/BHD route but it's also possible that the gate agent was not enforcing groups properly. With a small number in the J cabin (where 0s would typically be), I'd guess poor enforcement by the gate agent.
